The countdown begins

We are getting closer every day now. The first of November is Sunday and that means we only have 17 days to go. We are going to have another great event and I think the kids will enjoy themselves.
The team has some really great ideas and events planned out for all attendees. Although it is going to be different than from years past the event is still going to be exciting. We have events to show what gis is and others to show how it is used in real life applications. Check back here regularly to see more on our event.

2009 Shaping Up

Well the countdown has begun, we are only about 90 days out and although that may seem like a long time it will fly by and next thing you will know GIS Day is here!! Which is a great thing. We are all busy and getting ready for the event.
This year is going to be a great year and would like to say THANK YOU to everyone so far that is helping coordinate the event.

This year’s event is over with and as usual, we are getting some much-needed rest before we start planning next year’s event.
I cannot say thank you enough to all our sponsors, without them this event would not have happened.

GIS DAY 2008 !!!!

The event was great!! We had 271 students show up and all of were impressed with the students. Everyone of the sponsors has said how much fun they had and how they loved the event. The day was great, even better than last year.

I want to say thank-you to all of our sponsors, for without them none of this would have been possible!

A thanks also goes out to all of our volunteers for all of their help with making the event happen.

Congratulations to our 3 lucky Georgia Southern students who won on map contest! We will get those maps posted soon for all to see.

We will also update the gallery so everyone who was not able to attend can see all the fun we had. Please check back soon!!

Counting down to GIS Day

Great News!!! Georgia Power is now a Platinum Sponsor! Georgia Power is our only Platinum sponsor and we thank them for their continued support of GIS Day. Without our sponsors the event would not be what it is, the kids are the real winners here – thank you.

The countdown continues, we are only two days away from the event. It is getting exciting; I received calls all weekend about the event.

Over 350 students attending 2008 GIS Day

We are glad to see that we will have close to 360 students in attendance this year. We have many sponsors that are there to answer questions and share their experiences with the students. Students will be allowed to browse the GIS Day booths and participate in the Map Gallery Scavenger Hunt. As part of the Scavenger Hunt this year, students will be interviewing GIS Professionals to learn how they use the technology in their daily jobs. In addition to these activities, students will receive souvenir bags to collect materials from the sponsors and participants. The expected time to complete the event activities is one hour.

Preparation for the 2008 GIS Day

As we get closer to GIS Day (only 4 more days) we are all getting ready for the event, in preparation for the event we sent all participating educators an informational packet. It is our hope that teachers will be able to utilize some of the materials to prepare students for the event. If the schedule does not allow this, teachers may want to simply hand out the GIS Day Vocabulary sheets to their students prior to the field trip. At the event, teachers will receive a follow up CD including an answer key to the Map Gallery Scavenger Hunt and digital copies of the maps used.
